[Intro] This is the first station Extending upward into the skull Such as the action of the heart Such as... the human brain This is the first station Extending upward into the skull Such as the action of the heart Such as... the human brain (Six degrees) This is the first station Extending upward into the skull (Six degrees) Such as the action of the heart Such as... the human brain (Six degrees) This is the first station Extending upward into the skull (Six degrees) Such as the action of the heart Such as... the human brain [Verse 1] Six degrees: it's a far away place Where love goes to disappear without a trace It's a place I know you've never been before Because if you did, you wouldn't treat me like a whore Limerence: it's the feeling of obsession A feeling that lacks clear co-communication A cyclical feeling of intermittent reinforcement It's never occurred with my explicit endorsement [Chorus] Six degrees and long ago Lonely in a zoo (the human brain) That's how long it takes, you know Till it all gets back to you (the action of the heart) For the words you've never heard And all the things you never knew (the human brain) That's how long it takes, you know To travel, to travel back to you [Post-Chorus] This is the first station (Six, six, six, six) This is the first station (Six, six, six) (Six, six, six) [Verse 2] I’m craving, I’m craving; hedonistically raving I’m tired of sinning and lying, misbehaving I can’t go on actin' like your tool On the tarot deck, card zero: The Fool All the little moments and all the little gestures Staring at the wall and memorizing textures One more thing I keep forgettin' to mention: Thank you for affection, time, and your attention [Chorus] Six degrees and long ago Lonely in a zoo (the human brain) That's how long it takes, you know Till it all gets back to you (the action of the heart) For the words you've never heard And all the things you never knew (the human brain) That's how long it takes, you know To travel, to travel back to you [Bridge] The human brain The action of the heart The human brain [Interlude] The human brain The action of the heart The human brain (To travel back to you) [Outro] Six degrees and long ago Lonely in a zoo (The human brain) That's how long it takes, you know Till it all gets back to you (The action of the heart) For the words you've never heard And all the things you never knew (The human brain) That's how long it takes, you know To travel, to travel back to you (Six degrees)

about

I wrote "6 Degrees" after receiving news of someone I had long-been infatuated with passing away. I had never met them, but felt so close to them. So close, in fact, that I was only one sordid relationship away from them — they were the ex-lover of my, at the time, most esteemed paramour. I cried to myself, not being able to extend comfort to either parties, separated by a strict and unwavering set of circumstances. Never before had I felt something so strange and implacable. In my heart, I knew it wasn't my time to grieve, and still, I could not escape the way I felt.

about

Ryder Houston Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Ryder Harrison Houston is an American filmmaker and musician from Dallas, Texas.
